Bleachers - Merry Christmas, Please Don't Call

Christmas breakup anthem.

The band Bleachers just released their Christmas breakup anthem “Merry Christmas, Please Don’t Call” just in time for the holiday season! They’re one of my favorite bands and I’ve loved their music ever since their 2014 debut “Strange Desire”. The song is typical Bleachers with their 80s pop-rock production and melodramatic lyrics. If you’re looking for a happy song that brings out that Christmas spirit, I can think of a million other songs but this one isn’t it!

The lyrics are top-notch, painting the story of a relationship gone sour and why the narrator doesn’t want the other person to call them on Christmas. The first two lines, “To the tempo of your uptight” and “Is the flicker of a street light” seem incongruent but sounds very poetic to the listener, illustrating Jack Antonoff’s genius pop songwriting. Known as the premier pop collaborator for his work with Lorde, Lana Del Rey, and of course Taylor Swift, you can definitely hear traces of his work with those artists on the songs he makes as the band Bleachers. So, if you’re in the mood for a robust breakup anthem that just happens to reference Christmas, check out the song below!
